The roles of assessor and supervisor are separate in an EVC-procedure. The assessor mostly plays a part in the assessment phase; assessing competences. The supervisor (also known as portfolio supervisor) mostly plays a part during the first steps of the EVC-procedure (education and supervision in the phase of recognising competences). In order to avoid conflicts of interest, the roles of supervisor and assessor need to be separated. It is recommended to work with at least two assessors during an EVC-procedure. This advances the intersubjectivity. The assessment no longer depends on the opinion/assessment of a single person but on two persons. One of the assessors can work in the field in question and the other assessor in for instance the educational institute involved in the implementation of the EVC-procedure.
